ICHTHYS / THE FISH
I’ve always wondered why the fish is used so much when it comes to Jesus and Christianity. So I started looking into it and found out there’s actually a beautiful meaning behind it.
ICHTHYS is the ancient Greek word for “fish,” and early Christians used it as a way to identify their faith.
Each letter represents a powerful statement:
I — Iēsous — Jesus
CH — Christos — Christ
TH — Theou — God’s
Y — Huios — Son
S — Sōtēr — Savior
Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.
Something as simple as a fish carries a message that has pointed people to Jesus for centuries.
And that’s what this design is about: sometimes the simplest symbol can carry the greatest message.
ICHTHYS / THE FISH
Siempre me llamó la atención por qué se usa tanto el pez cuando hablamos de Jesús y del cristianismo. Así que comencé a investigar y descubrí que detrás de ese símbolo hay un significado bien especial.
ICHTHYS es la palabra griega antigua para “pez”, y los primeros cristianos comenzaron a usarla como una manera de identificar su fe.
Cada letra representa una declaración poderosa:
I — Iēsous — Jesús
CH — Christos — Cristo
TH — Theou — de Dios
Y — Huios — Hijo
S — Sōtēr — Salvador
Jesucristo, Hijo de Dios, Salvador.
Algo tan sencillo como un pez lleva un mensaje que ha apuntado a Jesús durante siglos.
Y de eso se trata este diseño: a veces un símbolo sencillo puede llevar un mensaje enorme.
